Magnetite

Locality: Port Henry, Moriah Township, Mineville District, Essex Co., New York, USA

2.7 x 2.4 x 2.0 cm. A sharp, lustrous, floater magnetite crystal from a historic New York iron ore locale - Port Henry on Lake Champlain. The crystal has textbook octahedral form, with only a bit of bruising and contacting. Old-time material, undoubtedly over 100 years, from the well-known Jim Chenard Collection.
