East Vein Pillar cave in SW UV 2008

East Vein Pillar cave in SW UV 2008

Southerly view of part of the 25-foot-tall outcrop of brightly fluorescing ore of the eastern vein (featuring the artificial "cave" where some ore has been removed - see ladder inside) still in place between the Fill Quarry and the Passaic Pit. Visible are willemite (green), calcite (orange-red), and on some of the foreground boulders, hydrozincite (blue). Photo was taken during the April 2008 dig. The annual event has featured the illumination of the ore vein by huge SW UV lights during the evening fluorescent mineral collecting.
