Blue cobaltoan staurolite containing 2.5 wt. % CoO in thin section. Width of photo 0.7 mm. Photographed with transmitted light and single polarizer. The sample is from the original locality of lusakite, described by Skerl and Bannister (1934) [http://www.minersoc.org/pages/Archive-MM/Volume_23/23-146-598.pdf], ca. 70 km east of Lusaka. After 77 years since the discovery, this is the single locality of cobaltoan staurolite worlwide.
Quartz is white, ilmenite and magnetite are opaque, kyanite along right edge has a strong cleavage.
