A top specimen from this locality. A cavity completely filled with opal spheres upon a yellow calcite drusy. It has been found in 2002 by me during a "loc-check" with Fabrizio Adorni, the author of the article on the Rivista Mineralogica Italiana. Even if opal is the most aesthetic mineral of the quarry, Case Montanini is known for its wonderful melanophlogite crystals. Overall size of the specimen 15x7x5cm, size of main opal sphere 5mm. Photo and collection Chris Mavris.
