Hematite

Locality: Glendinning Property, Mistinikon Lake, Matachewan, Yarrow Township, Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada

From a locality off the beaten track. The Glendinning Property was a baryte mine not far from Matachewan in Ontario's Timiskaming District. It was discovered in 1917 and has just recently stopped production. This is a specimen of black and cranberry red botryoidal hematite with minor baryte. Some specular hematite on the surface of the botryoids gives it a sparkle.
