Wurtzite

Locality: Braen Quarry (Braen Stone Industry Quarry; Sam Braen Quarry), Haledon, Passaic Co., New Jersey, USA

A 1.2 cm. wurtzite crystal on datolite matrix. Collected by Joe Stromwasser. In 1966 this was purchased by Mel Pollinger and then passed to Joe Cilen an 1972. I obtained this specimen in June of 2001. According to Mel, Stromwasser collected a few of these including a matrix piece with several crystals on it. I have not seen any other wurtzite from this quarry. Specimen pictured in Mineralogical Record vol.40 #6 p.524 figure 23.
