Locality: Thomas Mine (Balsam Gap kyanite location; Parkway kyanite location), Buncombe Co., North Carolina, USA
13mm tall free standing gemmy kyanite crystal on quartz. The kyanite crystal exhibits a variety of exceptionally well-formed terminal faces, unusual for the species. This crystal did not form in a vug, but rather was exposed when the enclosing quartz was broken open. Collected and photographed by Keith Wood.
