Approaching the Hatrurim Formation

Locality: Hatrurim Formation, Negev, Israel

This is a photo approaching the Hatrurim formation coming up from the Dead Sea on Route 31. The formation is the dark colored rock in hills in the distance beyond the camels. I have traced this formation to the rim approaching the descent of the Dead Sea Valley, pretty much surrounding the Dead Sea on all sides on the cliff tops above the valley descent. It seems as if the creation of the formation, which is due to the burning of the rock, has something to do with the collapse of the earth that formed the Dead Sea basin. Picture taken February 2012.
