This is a piece about 1.5" x 1" of quartz (white gray) containing an ixiolite crystal (about 1/2" long). This was collected by Fred Schuster from a decomposing pegmatite vein, containing mostly gray quartz, muscovite, and ixiolite. Another larger crystal was found by Fred Schuster and sold. The speciment in the photo is was sold to Tony Albini and is in his collection. He had the mineral analyzed by X-ray diffraction and it was determined to be ixiolite. The other crystal whose location was the larges ixiolite xl that this writer is aware of coming from Connecticut.
