Almandine

Large specimen of biotite mica schist with many black almandine garnets on the weathered surface. The garnets were harder than the schist, so they stand proud of the softer matrix that weathered away. Overall size of mineral specimen: 11x7x4 cm. Size of individual crystals: 3-8 mm.
