Nickel-iron, Iron (Var: Kamacite), Taenite

Locality: Canyon Diablo meteorite, Meteor Crater and vicinity, Winslow, Coconino Co., Arizona, USA

Note: The mineral species Nickel-iron is not listed in our database for this locality. This specimen may be misidentified or the mindat list of minerals at this locality may be incomplete.

Large nickel-iron meteorite with a size of 3,7 x 2,2 cm and a weight of 39 g from the famous meteorite impact crater first discovered in 1891. The meteorite is an iron type, thought to be core material from a planetary body.
On the picture we see the Widmanstätt'schen figures with Kamacite, Taenite and 'Plessite'; last is the filling mass between Kamacite and Taenite.
