Scanning electron microscope backscattered electron image of crystals of mica that grade from muscovite to ganterite. The ganterite is contained in the regions of the mica flakes that appear brightest white in the image. Barite appear as small, white, approximately round specks and as thin veins of granular white trails between cleavage planes of mica in the left side of the image. This is the sample described in American Mineralogist 91:702-705 (2006)
