Fergusonite-(Nd), Ferriallanite-(Ce)

Locality: Ust'-Biraya, Biraya Fe-REE ore occurrence, Biraya and Bya Rivers confluence area (Chara Basin), Vitim Plateau, Irkutskaya Oblast', Prebaikalia (Pribaikal'e), Eastern-Siberian Region, Russia

5 mm in diameter segregation of orange-brown ferusonite-(Nd) grains in ferriallanite-(Ce) zone of the vein. Composition of the fergusonite is (Nd.40Ce.20Sm.08Pr.04Gd.03La.03Eu.02Ca.06Th.01)0.87Nb1O3.57(OH)0.43 . Usually it is overgrown by black micro-grains of new mineral phase Ce(Fe",Nb,Ti)SiO5. Main black inclusions are ferriallanite-(Ce) crystals. White matrix is mixture of calcian strontianite and strontian calcite. Selfcollected in August of 2004 on Tornebohmite vein. Pavel M.
