Calcite (Var: Manganoan Calcite), Limonite

Locality: Cavnic Mine (Kapnikbánya), Cavnic (Kapnic; Kapnik), Maramureș Co., Romania

A fascinating specimen of mangano calcite with a feathery surface texture. Scalenohedrons are covered by secondary growth rosettes which, in turn, are peppered with thousands of dark brown cubic crystals believed to be pyrite pseudomorphed to limonite. 19cm X 10cm X 8cm
