Regional Report: Gold Mines, Kliening, Bad St Leonhard, Saualpe Mts, Carinthia, Austria

Ancient gold mines. Activities in this area, which extends into the neighbouring Mischlinggraben (Staubmann workings), date back to the 15th century. Today, the workings are long abandoned, but gold nuggets are still frequently found by panning in the Kliening stream, near Wiesenau. In the Mischlinggraben, additional minerals were recovered from the host rocks, mainly marbles. Located near Kliening, about 2 km SW of Bad St Leonhard.
