This group of mines was formed in 1780, by amalgamation of Wheal Girl, Wheal Virgin, West Wheal Virgin, East Wheal Virgin and Wheal Fortune. In 1861, the Great Consolidated Mines were combined with the United Mines, which lay 1 km further south, under the name Clifford Amalgamated Mines.
