About Elaeolite
Formula:
(Na,K)AlSiO4
Name:
From the Greek word 'ελαιον' ('elaion' = oil), due to its greasy lustre.
A variety of Nepheline
Massive, with oily or greasy luster (Fatstone, Oilstone), grey to green or blue.
Name introduced by Karsten and Klaproth (1809) for a mineral from the the syenite-pegmatite-dykes at Friedrichswärn (= Stavern), Norway, which was later shown to be identical with nepheline. However, the name was used as a variety of nepheline during the 19th century.
