The validity of marianoite as a distinct species in the wöhlerite group (cuspidine group) has been questioned, see Merlino & Mellini (2009) and Chakhmouradian & Mitchell (2009).
It was formally discredited by IMA in September 2020 CNMNC Newsletter 57: IMA 20D, as it is identical to wöhlerite.
