Abraham G. Werner
Name:
Named in 1800 by José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva (1763-1838) for Abraham Gottlob Werner. Werner's vital dates are September 25, 1749 (Wehrau, Prussian, Silesia) to June 30, 1817 (Dresden, Germany). He was professor of mining and mineralogy at the Freiberg Mining Academy. He was an influential teacher and his ideas shaped early geological thought, although they were largely abandoned by geologists in his lifetime. Original mineral was from Northo (Nødebro?) and Ulricha Mines (?), Arendal Iron Mines, Norway.
