Looking towards the Poudrette pegmatite April 1997

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

The Poudrette pegmatite was directly below the ice "falls". The photo was taken at the end of April but because of the high wall in the S corner (which blocks out the sun) some of the best collecting areas were covered by ice.
Currently (2008) the quarry is closed to collecting.
The Poudrette pegmatite was buried under rubble several years ...

reemergence

This is a photograph of myself exiting the 14 foot deep Polylithionite, Serandite and Leucophanite cavity in the Summer of 2003. About 30 5 gallon buckets was collected with about 20% being good quality specimens. That was a last good year at MSH.

The "lake" in early spring

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

The "lake" comes and goes with quarrying operations and the seasons. Sometimes it disappears from one place only to show up in another. This photo shows the "lake" in late April 1997.

The "magic mountain" at dawn, June 1996

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

On "open house" days the gates always opened at 9 AM. But the most eager collectors arrived at 7 AM or even before so as to have first crack at staking out a good collecting spot. But not this year (2008).
The view is roughly south. You can see the famous and very productive "south corner" of the quarry slightly to the right of center.

The main pit and E wall April 1997.

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

The big shovel is to deal with boulders that did not yield to the explosives. A bit of the "lake" is visible on the far right. The E wall of the quarry has not been as productive as the side from which the photo was taken.
