Groverake and Frazers Hush Mines

Groverake Mine, Rookhope District, Weardale, North Pennines, Co. Durham, England, UK

Photo taken shortly before the mine closed.
The workings on the decline at Frazers Hush can be seen in the background, these were totally demolished and the decline entrance filled in very shortly after closure.
The Frazers Hush workings were one of the most productive in the district, for specimen quality material, in recent years.

Groverake headframe

Groverake Mine, Rookhope District, Weardale, North Pennines, Co. Durham, England, UK

The sad state of Groverake Mine in March 2007. The mine yard had apparently been used to experiment with a new way of liming the fields using a muck-spreader. This had not met with much success judging by the state of the abandoned machine.
