Aerial photo

Hemerdon Mine (Hemerdon Bal Mine; Hemerdon Ball Mine), Plympton, Tavistock District, Devon, England, UK

Unusual viewpoint for this site. The date is unknown but the yellow machinery bottom left could be something to do with the exploratory drilling in the 1980s.

Quartz stockwork

Hemerdon Mine (Hemerdon Bal Mine; Hemerdon Ball Mine), Plympton, Tavistock District, Devon, England, UK

Thinly mineralised Quartz stockwork in the greisen of the main pit. These thinly mineralsied veins have a more northerly trend than the more mineralised veins (ref: Dines H.G., 1956). Additionally the less mineralised veins are apparently in greisen with a higher kaolin content. Chris Popham photo, June 2004.

Stockworks

Hemerdon Mine (Hemerdon Bal Mine; Hemerdon Ball Mine), Plympton, Tavistock District, Devon, England, UK

View across the stockworks at the eastern end of the main pit. The paler bands are the altered greisen containing the mineralised quartz veins and are largely confined to the lower step (approximately 10 feet in height). The darker bands are less altered granite. The upper step (approximately 6 feet in height) in the sunlight is mostly loose ...
