Andranondambo sapphire deposits, Maromby Commune, Amboasary District, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Tuléar (Toliara) Province, Madagascar Subvertical plagioclasite veins in "cipolin", a mica-rich marble. Andranondambo sapphire deposits, Maromby Commune, Amboasary District, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Tuléar (Toliara) Province, Madagascar General view of the artisanal sapphire mining site near Andranondambo. The main sapphire deposit forms a slight ridge. The marbles, skarns, cipolins and sapphire-bearing plagioclasite veins are covered by a thick crust of calcrete. Alluvial and eluvial sapphire is found all around the ridge. Width of view approximately 250 m. Taken in August 2005. |
