Låvenite

Small yellow aggregates of låvenite in nephelinesyenite pegmatite in situ in the type locality peghmatite on Låven island. An other type locality mineral for Låven can be seen just a few cm up and to left from the finger, a platy brown mosandrite crystal. Photo taken 10.06.07 by Peter Andresen.

A postcard from 1960 showing the tiny island Låven in the Langesundsfjord district, Norway. The Låven Island is the type locality for aegirine, astrophyllite, catapleiite, låvenite, leucophanite, mosandrite and tritomite-(Ce). The island is protected as a nature reserve, and all mineral collecting is forbidden.

Type locality for aegirine

Låven (Skådön; Lamö; Lamanskjaer), Langesundsfjorden, Larvik, Vestfold, Norway

On the small island of Laaven at the entrance of Langesundsfjord, this is the exact type locality for aegirine. Enough left, but it's a strictly protected locality. The shoe is size 46/11.5. June 2007.
Laaven is also the type locality for astrophyllite, catapleiite, lavenite, leucophanite, mosandrite, tritomite-(Ce).
