searching for Wavellite, Chala Mine

Chala Mine, Spachievo ore field, Mineralni Bani Obshtina, Haskovo Oblast, Bulgaria

Further down the hill from the Chala Gold mine is this area renowned in the past for producing reasonable specimens of Wavellite. The area has changed drastically over the last couple of years and has been totally bulldozed flat. Whether this is in preparation for redevelopement of the site or for replanting of trees, is not known.
Hard work trying to find the Wavellite in vugs these days -but I'm pretty sure evreyone in our group of intrepid adventurers, eagerly scouring the flattened ground, found something! May 2007. Colleen Thomson
