This is me at one of the many entrances of the Piona's pegmatite mine,on Como's lake. This mine,now worked out,has been overworked for its huge muscovite production,especially in the past century. Those big pegmatite veins give mostly milky aquamarine and schorl. Some of them also give wineish coloured garnets.

View of the Pegmatite Dyke

Mineralogical zonation of the Malpensata Pegmatite Dyke:
A central zone with megacrystals of Albite and interstitial Quartz (approx. 0,5 m wide), a middle zone with megacrystals of Schorl an Albite, some booklets of Muscovite and Garnets (approx.0,2-0,3 m wide) and the wall zone that is a termometamorphic contact with the host rocks.
