Drilling

Heights Quarry, Westgate, Weardale, North Pennines, Co. Durham, England, UK

Drilling the Great Limestone in Heights Quarry about 1998. The top of the limestone(behind the riggs) can be seen to be interlayered with shale bands, these were known to miners as the 'tumbler beds' because of their characteristics as a roof in the workings.

Hole in the ground.

Cambokeels Mine (Cammock Isle Mine; Cumnock Isle Mine; Cammock Eals Mine), Westgate, Weardale, North Pennines, Co. Durham, England, UK

For all it was a dry day, water was vividly flowing from this hole. No idea how deep it is or what purpose it served but i'm curious as to why someone would lay an old door frame over the top, perhaps its an adit into the mine, and if so why has it been left open?
