Nant Helen opencast coal mine, Onllwyn, Neath-Port Talbot (West Glamorgan; Glamorgan), Wales, UK Insitu quartz (to about 7cm) and ankerite on sandstone. The sandstone bands, usually about a metre thick run broadly horizontally in the pit. Nant Helen opencast coal mine, Onllwyn, Neath-Port Talbot (West Glamorgan; Glamorgan), Wales, UK Working a bed of sandstone between shale. The minerals were collected from rent fractures in the more brittle sndstone member. The creamy ankerite can be seen coating such a facture. |

Nant Helen opencast coal mine, Onllwyn, Neath-Port Talbot (West Glamorgan; Glamorgan), Wales, UK Part of a batch of just-collected muddy quartz crystals to 70mm. These were loosely lining a large cavity in a sandstone bed. The red blobs are blood, these were sharp rocks!
