Queen Christina shaft | |

Sala Silver Mine, Sala, Västmanland, Sweden The mines in Sala is first mentioned in a Bishop's letter in the year of 1511, but production figures exist from 1506. Thus one can safely assume that mining started earlier. Queen Christina shaft (started 1650, 257 m deep) became later the main shaft for the mines here. The yellow and red buildings are today used for tourist purposes. |
