The main workings for the recovery of andalusite ore are in the bold, quartzite outcrops at the top of the photo. The best rutile recovery area is on the right side (north) of the white, pyrophyllite area. Woodhouseite is in some of the boulders scattered over the slope in the upper right of the view. The Champion Mine is in the bold white and red-brown outcrops at an elevation of 9000 ft (2740 m). Access (by foot only) is by trail starting at the canyon mouth on the left side of the photo (above the three trees) with a starting elevation of about 5000 ft. The old mining camp (still fairly well preserved) is at an elevation of 7600 ft. Trails ...
