Capped shaft

Capped (and blocked) shaft on the Parys Mine set.

When I first used to explore these mines this shaft was uncapped and open down to water within the workings. If you lobbed a big rock down it, there used to be a wait of a couple of seconds and then a huge "boom". This would reverberate for ages as the waves richocheted off the stope ...

Dressing Floor, Mona mine

Know as Charlotte's yard, this is where the mine's "copper ladies" worked.

Michael Faraday (1791-1867), the celebrated chemist and physicist who contributed significantly to the study of electromagnetism and electrochemistry, visited the mine in 1819 and described their work thus.
