O'Connells Kyanite Deposit, Broken Hill, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia

As seen from the photo, the O'Connells kyanite deposit has been rehabilitated, and the original segment of highway that passed directly by the workings has been moved about 80m south. The sign near the vehicles is a 10km marker for the Broken Hill McDonalds, which is now the only useful way of locating the workings without the aid of GPS. The dark ...

PA12 Shaft

Unnamed Cu occurrence (PA12), Broken Hill, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia

PA12, stumbled upon in May 2009 during a student mapping exercise. Abundant malachite and azurite staining occurs on the shaft collar, and the original prospectors seem to have set aside a pile of richer material on the other side of the collar, I would presume to be sent off for assay.
