Opening to the ramp driven at the Hellens Eplett Mine

A ramp was driven at the Hellens Eplett Mine to intercept diamond drilling from the surface. The opening has been back filled Steel reinforcing bars and plates are visible in the rock outcropping around the ramp.

If you have ever been to Cobalt you may have noticed Diabase with phenocrysts aka Diabase Porphyry. It does not always contain Silver or Arsenide. This piece was found in Bucke Township. High grade Silver with associated Cobalt arsenide. Silver is present in the Diabase and Feldspar phenocrysts. 11.5x11x5cm 582 grams. Collected by A.Debnam

I have always enjoyed collecting in the southern Ontario quarries for the range of colours in Sphalerites. The golden orange colour of these crystals is one of my favourites. Crystals from 1mm to 4mm in size. Micro Marcasite's add some sparkle. On a Dolostone remnant of a Stromatolite fossil. Collected by A.Debnam
