Calcite is one of the most common minerals in earth's crust and features with over 2.000 forms the biggest crystal variety. It appears in almost every mineral collection and valorizes it with its partly bizarre aggregates and miscellaneous formations. Calcite is the mineral for the crystallographic interested collector.
I`m Ingo Löffler and collect minerals since more than 25 years. It wasn't simple as I decided to specialize in calcite in 1997. I don`t regret the move toward only one mineral, the calcite is not a boring mineral. My collection will never be perfected, because for me the journey is the destination, that`s why it is always in a process of change. I don´t put emphasis on the mass of calcite, for me less is more and a very good quality is important. Actually I don´t prefer a special region, but still I have specific key regions in my collection. Beside the purchase of calcite specimen I like to collect by myself very much. This extend the own acquaintance very much and you can forget the everyday stress for some hours. It´s a kind of absolute freedom for a short moment. So is the ratio of bought and self collected mineral in my collection very balanced. I would say the collection matures like good wine, everything needs it´s time, that’s my collection – philosophy.
