I began collecting when I was very young. My grandmother tells me I used to pick up rocks wherever I went, and she is the one who bought me my first real specimens, most of which I still have today (though I have no idea where any of them are from). I abandoned collecting for lack of funds and lack of transportation until after college. With the help of mindat and some local clubs I am now a full blown addict.

I prefer self collected specimens, and since I live in New Jersey I tend to concentrate there and in the surrounding states. I am a big fan of the New Jersey zeolites (and associated minerals such as prehnite), as well as fluorescent minerals. I do however attend the local shows and will often purchase specimens that really catch my eye, no matter what the locality.
