Unusual shaped colorless hollow Fluorite 'skull' with sharp, strong defined and intense colored purple phantoms in the interior of the Fluoriet crystals. There is totaly no matrix on this specimen, what makes that this entire aggregate of partially modified cubes is so transparent. The picture was taken with a little more back light and less front lighting. This specimen was also featured in the Spanish magazine "Mineral Up" 2012/1 on page 46.

6NT-N9PCalcite : CaCO3, Marcasite : FeS2, Pyrite : FeS2

Conco Mine, North Aurora, Kane Co., Illinois, USA

Calcite with inclusions of marcasite and pyrite; the specimen is 13.5 × 9 cm. Matt Zukowski specimen, Jeff Scovil photo. One of the best calcite scalenohedra to be found at Conco. It was on the roof of the Burrow Cavity near the outside edge. Amazing that it was undamaged during the initial pocket discovery blasting! One miner relayed to me that this pocket was discovered pre-2000. The mine super at the time had the loader bury the pocket out of fear that miners might "waste" time collecting and/or get injured. The miner who told me this remebered what pillar it was and over ten years later we excavated the area and sure enough...the pocket remained intact. Specimen was mined in 2010.
