I'm a collector of small esthetic minerals. Over the years, photography has become the most important part of the hobby for me.

From now on, I will upload photographs at the highest sensible resolution, typically 2048 pixels wide in 16:10 or 4:5 aspect ratios. If you are logged on to mindat, you will see the following link "Click here for higher-resolution version (new window)." You can find the available high resolution photos in my gallery by entering the keyword "hires" (don't press enter).

V6R-UY8Anatase : TiO2

Tachgagalt Mine, Ouarzazate Province, Souss-Massa-Draâ Region, Morocco

Field of View: 2.5 mm

This amazing bi-coloured anatase crystal seems to be engraved as do the Moroccan craftsmen on copper or silver.
Thanks to George Favreau who loaned me this sample for photography.

08T-6QWGraphite : C, Fluorapatite : Ca2Ca3(PO4)3F

D-Block Mine, Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mts, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania

These fluid inclusions in Fluorapatite are approximately 0.4 mm across
and contain well-formed graphite crystals. Raman spectroscopy shows the inclusions contain nitrogen, methane and perhaps hydrogen sulfide. For more information see Long et al. Rocks and Minerals 88(2) 179-183 (2013).

An animated gif of similar inclusions simulating their appearance as one would focus a microscope up and down, is available at the Rocks and Minerals
supplementary materials site at: http://www.rocksandminerals.org/Back%20Issues/2013/March-April%202013/fluorapatite-remarkable-abstract.html

RUD-95NDiopside : CaMgSi2O6, Graphite : C, Mesolite : Na2Ca2Si9Al6O30·8H2O, Laumontite : CaAl2Si4O12·4H2O

Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mts, Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, Tanzania

Gem quality diopside crystals (the largest is approximately 1.7 cm tall) associated with tabular graphite crystals. The graphite crystals are coated with a secondary overgrowth of graphite, and sparse, tiny octahedral pyrite crystals. Also associated are blocky white laumontite crystals and white acicular crystals of mesolite. This and other specimens were said to be discovered in an open pocket in December 2007. The specimen is 6x7 cm overall and is now in the collection of the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum (via Fine Minerals International).
