A 1.6-mm-long pollucite fragment, found in a cavity left by the dissolution of a bigger pollucite crystal. The child photo shows the cavity. Full-size specimen, 9 cm x 10 cm x 6 cm, posted in another photo. Giuliano Bettini collection and photo. I got this specimen thanks to a gift from Michele Degl’Innocenti. NOTE: About these “voids” Orlandi & Pezzotta wrote [original Italian text]: “Osservazioni dirette degli autori in vari filoni, ma soprattutto in quelli di Catri, S. Silvestro e Rosina, indicano che la pollucite sembra si alteri più facilmente della petalite, e quindi risulti di fatto più rara. In effetti in tutti questi filoni, ove sono stati trovati numerosi cristalli di petalite, sono state frequentemente trovate cavità di forma rotondeggiante e ricche di prodotti di alterazione, ascrivibili a cristalli di pollucite, ma solo in rarissimi casi sono stati trovati al loro interno minuti granuli del minerale”. Traslation: Authors' direct observations in a number of veins, but especially in those of Catri, S. Silvestro and Rosina, indicate that the pollucite seems to alter more easily than petalite and, therefore, it is in fact more rare. Actually in all of these veins, where numerous petalite crystals were found, cavities attributable to pollucite crystals, with a round shape and rich in alteration products, frequently occurred but only in very rare cases minutes granules of the mineral were found inside.
