“A small but intricate cluster of fairly sharp samarskite-(Y) crystals
(overall dimensions 15 by 15 by 22 mm) dug from the floor of the open
cut. The parallel and subparallel clusters stand out like a miniature
cityscape. Samarskite from the Spinelli Prospect played an important
role in the development of accurate radiometric dating using a mass
spectrometer (Nier, Thompson, Murphey, Phys. Rev., v. 60, p. 112-116,
1941). The Samarskite-(Y) crystals from this locality are the best of species.
