Last Updated: 10th Dec 2017

By Larry Maltby

Fluorapophyllite, Momin Akhada, Maharashtra, India

Introduction

This article is a supplement to the original article “A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum”. It contains another 105 photos that greatly expands the cross section of the minerals on display at the museum. As you will see the “Seaman” has become one of the most important repositories of minerals in Michigan. The labels shown here are exactly the same as they are shown at the museum.

Thanks for the comment Chris. That was the last of my photos from the Seaman. I wish that I could have been able to photograph some of the U of M specimens that you now have. It is unlikely that I will be able to get up there again. My wife can’t travel anymore and I can’ leave her alone. The good news is that I have plenty of material here at the house to keep me busy.

Nice. Only one question. The meteorite labeled as GIBSON,
Namaqualand, Namibia. I think it should be GIBEON. Cheers, Jim

Good catch Jim. I enlarged the label shown on my original photo and it is Gibeon.

Larry,
The bizarre connection is that I purchased a specimen of that meteorite from the Keweenaw Agate Shop in Copper Harbor years ago. The widmanstatten lines are rather distinctive. Loved the pictures. Haven't been there for a few years. Looking forward to my next trip. Keep up the great work.
Happy trails,
Jim

Larry,

Thanks for the photos. It's so nice to see part of the Seaman collection online. Gives me added incentive to visit again soon.
