Bob Symes Commemorative Meeting - Registration now open

As announced previously on Mindat, Dr Robert (Bob) Symes sadly passed away in May of this year. Bob was a great friend and supporter of the mineral collecting world and a meeting is being organised to commemorate his life and work, on 8th December 2016, in London – a flyer / registration form is included with this article for your information. Costs have been kept very low in order to attract the broadest possible attendance from all sectors of the geological / mineralogical community. The registration fee for the day is only £10, to include tea / coffee, with an optional evening reception at additional cost (£12). If you would like to attend, please send a cheque for the correct amount, payable to HOGG, to David Earle (address on the registration form).

Perhaps you can take the opportunity to build this event into a long weekend in London, or a visit to the newly “Spring-cleaned” mineral gallery at the NHM after its 19 week makeover earlier this year.

If you have never visited the Geological Society at Burlington House, the meeting will provide an opportunity to see this famous headquarters building. The day is really about Bob, and will offer plenty of opportunity to chat with his many friends and colleagues, as well as to learn something of his many and diverse interests. Final details of the day will be available to registered delegates in due course, but I registration is expected to commence from about 09.00am, with the talks starting 30-45 minutes later. There will be an ample lunch break (various eateries and hostelries are within easy distance of the venue) and the day is likely to finish by around 6pm.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting – please free to send the information on to anyone who may be interested, the meeting is open to all, and the lecture theatre can accommodate about 170 people. But please note that it is essential that you register in advance - Please do NOT just turn up on the day.

If you have any queries, please just get in touch and I’ll do my best to help.
