Buxton Museum and Art Gallery - with balloons!

I was privileged to be an invited guest at the formal opening today, of the new HLF-funded Wonders of the Peak Gallery at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery. The culmination of ten years of planning and a lot of hard work by Ros Westwood and her team, the gallery was formally opened by the Duke of Devonshire.

The focus of the refreshed museum is Wonders of the Peak - a journey through time and place, with more objects on display than ever before.

Nice job Ros!

If you are in the Peak District, make time to go and have a look at the new gallery, and also Boyd Dawkins Study − the recreated Victorian study of archaeologist and geologist William Boyd Dawkins, where you can discover more about local collectors and their collections. You can learn a lot here. Oh, and don't forget to "feed the bear" - ask at Reception if you cannot work it out!

Details of opening hours and temporary exhibitions can be found on the Museum website here https://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/leisure/buxton_museum/visitor_information/default.asp

Admission is free - but donations are welcome!
