New photographic setup

Hi all,

After some one shot picture with my first setup, a modified Wild M3 (with objective in axial position)

I wanted better result. A modified Wild M8 didn't help me for that, although I had stunned visual picture.
After a lot of investigation (I wrote 2 articles about this subject in french AFM journal), I concluded that accumulation of lens degraded picture and abandon the aim of make very good picture through stereomicroscope.
Some month ago, I had the opportunity on a french flea market to buy a complete perfect Meopta Axomat 5 enlarger with one of the best existing enlargement objective : a like new Rodenstock Apo-Rodagon N 50mm 1:2,8.

I couldn't resist to build my own photomacroscope in order to make good stacked picture

I present you my new setup

1 Meopta Axomat 5 enlarger stative without light box and negative holder. Here the bellow is totally retracted
2 Wild stereo 40/14 phototube + Wild x10/21 photo eyepiece (because there is no residual correction in this eyepiece)
3 Zeiss rotative sample holder on Zeiss WL microscope focus block
4 same flexible LED light than used by Jean-Marc Johannet (thanks to his valuable advice), diffused by tracing paper
5 two industrial flexible arm to hold various reflector screen
6 Fuji E900 compact camera with cable release on homemade camera holder and realtime video with EasyCAP DC60 USB2 converter
7 Rodenstock Apo-Rodagon N 50mm 1:2,8 objective (in reversed position) on russian M39 tube or Zeiss Luminar 16mm objective on PVC RMS/M42 tube + some adapter ring

For white calibration, I made a custom white balance with the compact camera on a grey reference card : I don't need post software white balance.
It is very important to put tracing paper in the head of the flexible LED in order to transform the multi LED emitting head in only one source of diffuse light.
I reduce excess of light (that cause overexposed burned area on crystal faces) by put the light far away from the sample, and I increase time exposure.

Now it's time to work on artistic aspect !
