Mindat 10 years Anniversary Celebration - Mineral Stickers Album

Last Updated: 23rd Feb 2010

By Jolyon & Katya Ralph

2010 is the 10th anniversary of the launch of the mindat.org website. We're going to be doing a whole bunch of exciting things throughout this whole year in order to celebrate this and to continue our goal of promoting mineralogy as a science and a hobby.

And the first way to do this, we've printed 20,000 super mineral stickers!

The Stickers

At Tucson's TGMS show this February we started giving out a sticker album and the stickers that kids can collect from our mindat booth in the main show and other places around the show.

The cover

Inside the Sticker Book

The theme of the album is the Mohs Hardness scale minerals, with one sticker for each of the ten minerals. We've printed 2,000 albums and over 20,000 stickers - the aim is not just to have stickers of pretty minerals, but to actually try and teach something about the differences between minerals at the same time. Because of the strong reaction at Tucson (we ran out of the sticker books we had there during Friday at the Kids' Day) we're likely to reprint this. We'll be distributing this book and stickers at further events, probably at Rochester, Ste Marie-aux-Mines, definately at Denver, and definately at Munich.

If any of our mindat friends can't attend these shows, don't worry! We have kept some back for posting. If interested please contact Ida (ida@mindat.org), cost will be US$8.00(cover postage fees etc) which can be paid with PayPal.

We have a junior mineral club in Toronto for kids aged 9-15 yrs or so. What kind of cost price would 40 of the booklets cost? That is our current club membership. We cap it at that. It easily coulf be 100+.

Let me know by PM?

These books were certainly a big hit among the kids and almost even more so with the adults!

Great idea!
