I have a Bultfonteinite and Poldervaartite specimen labeled from this mine. Does anyone know why Poldervaartite is no longer a recognized mineral at this site? Thanks.

I noticed it is still valid at the N'Chwaning I Mine.

I think after olmiite was described, they all turned out to be olmiites?
Rolf Brandt March 21, 2012 06:19AM
Alfredo is right, after they discovered that some poldervaartite was wrongly identified as such, it is thought that most poldervaartites are actually olmiites. Problably similar to the sturmanite/ettringite problem, you have to analyse them to know what is what. Rolf

Regarding Sturmanite, are not the bypyramidal, transparent, deep yellow-orange crystals always Sturmanite? I have never seen them described as anything else.
Rolf Brandt March 21, 2012 08:15PM
Hi Richard. you only know if you analyse the crystal, you can't "see" it
