Identity HelpBlue Cu-mineral with possible heulandite?

I have a mineral sample from a recent micromineral event trip that tragically got its label destroyed. I exchanged and received so many samples from so many people that I don't yet want to email specific people with questions about the samples origin.

The matrix is a fairly hard reddish-brown, with sort of vesicles in it. The results for the main accompanying mineral seems to point towards heulandite, although gismondine (with different crystal shape) is a pretty good match, too. The sample's origin may be in Africa or Italy, but I'm not sure - one's memory is excellent for only very short periods ;-)

The blue mineral is fairly soft, not soluble in hot water or hot 10% HCL. Tsumebite was a fairly good match - better than linarite(?) and mineral contains Cu, possibly Pb, for sure OH or H2O.

Some of the possible heulandite:

Thanks in advance for any help.

Pentagonite.

And it's been a while since the Indian subcontinent separated from Africa... :-)

Enjoy,

cavansite/pentagoniyte with heulandite???

To expand a little: The crystal shapes fit pentagonite but look wrong for cavansite, and the matrix - good thing Joel that you provided pictures of both! - is typical for one pentagonite paragenesis from the Wagholi Quarries.

Cheers, Gerhard

(who many years ago discovered mindat by googling "cavansite")

Thanks everyone, pentagonite I remember looking at during the Curnasco event, and wondering what the heck it is...

If one is not familiar with a whole bunch of blue minerals, it's hard to fix the identity, if the Raman match is reasonable, but not good enough like now.

A nearly perfect Raman match now, indeed pentagonite it is! I was using CrystalSleuth only this time for matching and that doesn't include spectra for that mineral. Usually I also compare with the RRUFF website and literature. I was so exhausted during my Italian tour that I couldn't remember what all I received as exchanges, when bringing over 200 samples home...

Dear me, no Cu in the formula! Should never, ever assume anything, but I thought is was from Italy or perhaps Namibia (I received several samples from there where a friend had worked for years) & some Cu-candidates looked almost right...

Because of the almost right, I decided to ask around here ;-)

Cheers,

Joel
