Hi all,

Going through some recently acquired Silver Coin material I came across these crystals. The FOV in the images is approx 6mm.

I'm guessing the crystals may be stolzite-wulfenite series, although not sure that the slightly curved crystal edges would fit with that assessment???

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated 8)

Thanks in advance,

Trevor

I'm not familiar with this mine. There are a few listed on Mindat, which one are these from?

Hi Trevor,

The crystals look somewhat like stolzite that I have collected from there. However, my stolzite are single, window pane shaped crystals, with no twinning or growth patterns. Your crystals are definately different.

Many thanks guys for your responses.

Kevin - sorry, should have been more specific, Silver Coin Mine, Valmy, Nevada 8)

Brent - yeah, I saw your picture, similar, but as you say, definitely not the same

Pavel - could be?? although the barite from there does seem to preferentially form blockier crystals?

For info the same matrix rock has also produced nice examples of chlorargyrite crystals

Trevor,

Here are some Silver Coin Baryte crystals I have, quite similar except color.

Lustre is too greasy for baryte.

The slightly curved crystal edges would fit stolzite-wulfenite.

Thanks Uwe - Rolf, maybe we both have stolzite-wulfenite then??

Cheers,

Trevor
