Identity HelpDiaboleite China

21st Oct 2018 15:36 UTCTom Henderson

I have recently seen on Ebay a few, mostly small, specimens of Diaboleite from China. The material is variously described as a new find from Guangxi or Yunnan, perhaps Guangyang. Does anyone know any further detail on the source of these specimens? A more detailed locality? Thx!

Did you ask the seller? Any information he has...?

I was curious about this as well. i bought a couple small pieces to check out.

I'm personally guessing its not Diaboleite at all, but hopefully it is. I'l post some images when i get the specimens in.

I also purchased a couple of pieces, the seller when asked was for location was only forthcoming with Yunnan.

As for what it is? In the hand it doesn't really resemble anything else I know.

The form where not broken is botryoidal, with a dark blue body color and a vivid light blue top if you get the angle right.

Interested to see other comments, my feeling is it may well be diaboleite, but its only a guess.

I am not familiar at all with diaboleite, so I am a poor judge of authenticity based on a hand sample. Instead, I was hoping that someone knew of a valid documented locality in China where other similar specimens originated. The limited locality information I provided is from the vendors. I have not received the samples yet. It looks like I am in good company with both curiosity and doubts!
