Identity HelpHelp with German locality: "Grube Wilhelm bei Niederhövels, Siegerland"

19th Dec 2018 10:18 UTCVik Vanrusselt Expert

Hello all,

I'm adding/editing data on Mindat based on information I can find in the books and magazines I own.

Right now, I'm reading "Lieber, W. (1977) Charakteristisch oder bedeutungslos? Die Farbe von Mineralien. Mineralien-Magazin, 1, 17-23."

On page 17, there is a picture of "malachite crystals on brown limonite" from the "Grube Wilhelm bei Niederhövels, Siegerland".

The "Wilhelm mine" (or quarry?) is not included here: https://www.mindat.org/loc-276178.html

Mineralienatlas.de does not include it either, but does list malachite at Niederhövels in general: https://www.mineralienatlas.de/lexikon/index.php/Deutschland/Rheinland-Pfalz/Altenkirchen%20%28Westerwald%29%2C%20Kreis/Wissen/Niederh%C3%B6vels

Is there (or was there ever) a "Wilhelm mine/quarry" in the area that should be listed on Mindat?

Thank you all,

Vik

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grube_Friedrich (= https://www.mindat.org/loc-11245.html)

mentions a "Grube Wilhelmsberg" near Niederhövels. This mine and other mines were merged with the Friedrich mine.

Later on also "Grube Prinz Wilhelm"
