Improving Mindat.orgPhotograph uploads - no locality option?

1st Apr 2011 23:13 UTCHenry Barwood

I've been trying to upload images of fluorescent spectra of minerals. I'm still asked for a "location". Some of these images contain 4-5 mineral spectra stacked. I simply had to choose a location which is very misleading. Perhaps I missed how to do it, but a "no location" option would be nice.

Henry,

Looks like this is another glitch and the Jolyon or Ralph can add to the long list of things that need improvement.

You have to choose photo type of 'other' it cannot be added as a mineral photo

Jolyon,

If you are tracking this thread, how would you suggest we add stromatolite to the database? There are a lot of rock related items that people are coming to Mindat to find out about things like this and at the moment there appears to me no petrodat that we can refer them to. Do you have plans to make mindat a bit more friendly to geologists and petrologists? Perhaps an upload page or tab for rock types?

I would support that

". I'm still asked for a "location". "

When you upload an "other" photo, there is a field for the location, but you don't have to put anything in it. Once you do have a locality in the field, you can't get rid of it on the edit page.

The only things required for "other" photos are a title and selecting one of the photo types.

Let me know and I can remove the locality field from those photos directly on the database.
